Association of Independent Celebrants Membership

The Association of Independent Celebrants warmly welcomes new members at all times; this includes newly trained celebrants, experienced celebrants and corporate membership for groups of celebrants working together under one company name.

We strive to provide our membership with the support and resources they require to be the most professional celebrants in the UK and overseas.

Your AOIC membership provides you with insurance cover up to the value of £5,000,000 for any one claim in respect of Public Liability and £1,000,000 for any one claim in respect of Professional Indemnity whilst you are engaged in the business of working as an independent celebrant, whether it be in the UK or overseas.

We also offer many other benefits to promote you and to assist you in your work and will continue to add to this list:

Joining the AOIC – Criteria

Experienced Celebrants

For those who are already practicing and experienced in conducting Ceremonies with 6+ months experience, including Registrars; Members of the Clergy.

You will need to provide details of:

  • Two professionals or organisations (e.g. Funeral Director/Wedding Event Organisers) for whom you have conducted services or;
  • Two couples or families for whom you have conducted ceremonies (e.g. wedding/civil partnership, baby naming);
  • All relevant training courses you have completed, and copies of certificates pertaining to these courses;
  • Two full service scripts of each type of Service/Ceremony you have written

New Celebrants

For those who have completed their training with one of our recommended training providers we offer an automatic 6-month Licentiate Membership. Support is offered to you through your Regional Committee Member. They are in a position to offer advice and guidance where needed or they can seek further advice using the many resources provided by the AOIC.
 
We welcome applications from other new celebrants; membership will be offered subject to your application. 
 
You will be asked to supply:
  • Proof of any training course/s with all relevant certificates as soon as they are available.

At the end of the 6 months we will ask you to provide details of:

  • Two professionals or organisations (e.g. Funeral Director/Wedding Event Organisers) for whom you have conducted services or;
  • Two couples or families for whom you have conducted ceremonies (e.g. wedding/civil partnership, baby naming);
  • Details of any additional training courses you have completed, and copies of certificates pertaining to these courses;
  • Two full service scripts of each type of Service/Ceremony you have written

Your progress will be reviewed and all being well you will be given full membership. If it is felt you are not quite ready we will work with you to ensure you receive the relevant support so we can progress your membership in due course.

Corporate Membership

For celebrants working together under one company name.

Each celebrant will be asked to provide details of:

  • Two professionals or organisations (e.g. Funeral Director/Wedding Event Organisers) for whom the they have conducted ceremonies or;
  • Two couples or families for whom they have conducted ceremonies (e.g. wedding/civil partnership, baby naming)
  • Two full service scripts of each type of Service/Ceremony the company uses
  • Proof of their training course/s with all relevant certificates

Application & Fees

AOIC Membership Fees
A joining fee of £50.00 will be charged to all applicants or per company for Corporate Membership. This is to cover expenses including badges, ID cards, Insurance certificates, registering members, taking up references and assessing submitted scripts.

To support new celebrants that have trained on one of our recommended training courses and are applying for a licentiate membership the AOIC will waive the £50 fee.

The current individual Membership fee is £300 per year, however for your first year the AOIC is pleased to offer this at the discounted amount of £200.

Membership fees can be paid by monthly standing order with no additional costs. Alternatively, you can pay in full by cheque or electronic transfer.

Corporate Membership is currently £200 per member and can be paid as above.

Our Membership is run on an annual basis, and renewed on the 1st April each year. The level of subscription charged will be reviewed each financial year. Should there be any change to the subscription fee it will not take effect until a full year from the date you join.
