  • Hayley Harris is an experienced celebrant specialising in funeral ceremonies, which she conducts at crematoria and cemeteries across Leicestershire.

    About Me

When my dad died, I truly understood how powerful a funeral service can be, not only in providing immediate comfort but also in supporting the longer-term healing of such raw emotions. I felt I wanted to use my experiences to help others experiencing their own losses. So, I trained to become a funeral celebrant.

The definition of a “good funeral” is different for everyone. So, when I visit a family, not only do I listen to their stories of their loved one, I also pay attention to the tone in which they communicate: some are more humorous, others more solemn. I support them with choosing appropriate music, readings, and other content to further personalise the service for them. I then draw on my creative writing and presentation skills I have developed throughout my previous career to write and deliver a service that celebrates the life of the deceased in keeping with the way their families wish them to be remembered.

I recently had to organise the funeral of a friend who had no living family members. It was a daunting task and I was worried about how to put together my memories of her with notes that I had from other friends. As soon as I met Hayley I felt more relaxed. She spent an hour and a half listening to me talk about my friend, making careful notes and asking thoughtful questions. She is extremely easy to talk to and she put together the notes and my ramblings into a beautiful celebration of my friend’s life. She recommended the perfect poem for the order of service and spoke in such a heartfelt way. She made a difficult task so much easier and I cannot thank her enough.
